e-Sign: Who Qualifies and What You Get

Learn how to use digital signatures to sign your legal documents online using your Aadhaar details.

e-Sign is a digital service that allows you to sign documents electronically using your Aadhaar credentials. It provides a way to authenticate your identity and sign paperwork in a digital format.

Who it's for

This service is available to any individual who is an Aadhaar holder. Because the system relies on your existing Aadhaar registration, your identity is verified through that established government database.

What you get

You receive a legally valid digital signature (डिजिटल हस्ताक्षर) that can be applied to various digital documents. This service is designed to make digital transactions and documentation as binding as a physical ink signature. By using this method, you can sign contracts, forms, or other important paperwork online, which removes the need to print, physically sign, and scan documents back into a computer.

What it costs you

There is no cost for using this service; it is free. You do not need to pay a fee to obtain the ability to sign your documents digitally through this system.

The catch to know

The most important thing to remember is that the process requires mobile OTP verification. Because the signature is tied to your identity, you must have your mobile phone with you to receive and enter the one-time password sent by the system. If your mobile number is not linked to your Aadhaar or if you do not have access to the phone, you will not be able to complete the signing process.

How to apply

  1. Locate the digital document that requires a signature.
  2. Select the option to use e-Sign when prompted by the document viewer.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar information as required by the system.
  4. Check your mobile device for the OTP and enter it to verify your identity.
