Gospel channel, diaspora donations, and the FCRA notice

Since 2021, NRI Mizo diaspora in Texas, Maryland, Sydney, and Toronto had been sending small donations — ₹500 here, ₹2,000 there — via PayPal and Wise. The channel was a ministry. The donors were church communities. The amounts totalled ₹6.8 lakh over three years.

🚨 The MHA inquiry notice classified every inflow as "foreign contribution" under Section 2(1)(h) of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010. The notice cited Section 11 — he had no FCRA registration. It cited the requirement for an FCRA-designated account at SBI New Delhi Main Branch (Branch Code 00691) — he had a regular savings account at SBI Chanmari. It gave him thirty days to respond with full transaction records and an explanation of non-compliance. Non-response could trigger a Section 3 cessation order and a retrospective five-year inquiry. Lalrinkima sat with the letter for four days without telling his wife.
